Automation is the key to success in the field of manufacturing. It helps improve productivity and quality and decreases production costs in the long run. Different types of Automation are available- Fixed, Flexible, and programmable. This article will compare fixed and flexible Automation for the manufacturing industry.

Fixed Automation is used to perform regular, simple tasks or sequences of operations. It is called intricate Automation because the mechanism that helps in programming does not allow any variation. This type of Automation is best for simple processes that are highly repetitive and contains high production volume. One of the significant disadvantages of using fixed Automation is that we can make no changes, and for any difference in process, a new automation system has to be installed.

As its name suggests, Flexible Automation is flexible and can adapt to any application or process change. The most significant advantage is its flexibility to change in process and adaptability. It is ideal for highly mixed products for high and low production volumes. However, it is expensive to implement but can reduce the production cost if used for a long duration.
